GLEN MURRAY.

A meeting of the Orton, Opuatia and Churchill ratepayers was recently held at Churchill to discuss the problem of having the road opened between the mouth of the Opuatia stream and the Rangiriri road. At present much of the road runs through open paddocks, while orchards and buildings have sprung up where the road was originally surveyed. This makes the driving of stock most difficult. As a result of the meeting, fencing operations have commenced and orchards and buildings are being swept away to make room for the rightful place of the King’s highway. Messrs Cummings and Driver, of Churchill, have had a most successful burn on their 200 acres of swamp land. This has been sown down in English grasses and .it is anticipated that when consolidated the land will be some of the best dairying pasture iii th Waikato. A quiet but most enjoyable evening. was spent at Glen Mu'rray on February 11, when a dance was held in the schoolroom. Mr. Simpson, jun., who had organised the arrangements, acted as M.C., and the success of the evening was chiefly due to his efforts. The music played by Mrs. Whitehorn, and supplemented by extras from Miss Maloney, on a newly tuned piano, was highly appreciated

A match between the Onewhero and Glen Murray Tennis Clubs was played at Onewhero last Saturday. The results are not yet available but it is known that our team won the singles while Onewhero won the doubles. Miss J. Osborne, of Opuatia, who has just completed a year at the Auckland Grammar School, has accepted an appointment as probationer in the Newton East school.

The Opuatia Sunday School will hold their annual picnic in Mr. Tumata’s paddock on Easter Monday.
