Although it takes the farmer who carts the skim milk to the pig night and morning all his time to screw 6d per lb out of the factories for his fat pig (says the Wanganui Herald) there is no immediate sign of the price of bacon being reduced to the retailer, As one local retailer puts it : “The curers are deliberating over the matter and afraid to knock off a penny or two in case the public may discover how much profit they are making.” “However, ,’’added the retailer, “the prige is bound to come down, and that before many more weeks have elapsed.” He then went cn to refer to margins of profit in curing, and stated that he remembered the time when the farmer received 4d per lb, and the cured article was sold retail at 8d and 9d per lb. The margin now between the price to the producer, as everyone knows, is 6d and Is Bd.
