PAPAKURA’S MENACE.
CASEIN FACTORY DRAINAGE. POSITION SATISFACTORY. PIPE DRAIN TO HE CONSTRUCTED. As a result of repeated representations made to the New Zealand DairyCompany to construct a pipe drain from the factory to the tide to carry the effluent from the casein factory at Papakura, it is gratifying to relecord that the company has acceded to the request. At Monday night’s meeting of the Town Board, Mr. J. G. Ward, factory manager at Pukekohe, on behalf of the company, appliedfor permission to lay galvanised iron piping for drainage purposes along the street from a point opposite the factory to the tidal waters at the foot of Cole’s Crescent.
Mr. Ward waited on the Board, and produced a plan of the proposed scheme. He stated that it was proposed to lay P!4in. pipes along the route, which would be sufficient to meet with the requirements. In a few years the Board would have a drainage scheme and then it would be compulsory for the factory to link up with this. The present proposal was only of a temporary nature. At the present time the company was carting the matter away and this entailed considerable expense. He asked for an assurance that the Board would not object to the matter being allowed to go down the creek during the winter. This would not alter the present scheme. Eventually it was decided to inspect the bay where it is proposed to empty the matter, in conjunction with Mr Ward and the district health officer, to see what could be done. . It was pointed out that the position was entirely satisfactory at present.
