ONE POWER BOARD.
PAPATOETOE APPROVES. The Papatoetoe Town Board at its meeting on Tuesday night, assented to the scheme for one metropolitan power board for the Auckland isthmus. Commenting on, the purchase of the city electrical station in Quay Street and the rejection of the proposal to acquire the power house in Hobson Street, and to take over the whole of the reticulation work in the city, one member expressed the view that it could scarcely be expected that the City Council would agree to what amounted to picking the eyes out cf the offer. While anxious to see a continued development in the hydro-electrical work,, the meeting was of opinion that coal would be very acceptable in the meantime. To wait for a supply from the former source would involve a matter of ten years, the latter being available in two years. No definite statement was made concerning the question of an electricity supply in bulk,, but as far as possible it was thought advisable to follow the lines of the other local bodies.
