DISTRICT NEWS.
WAiAU PA. This year farmers have been fortunate in securing exceptionally good crops of oats in this district, almost every farmer having from one to five stacks. Still at the present price of chaff it is felt that farmers are not making a profit, and it is the general general opinion that they are not getting a square deal. A matter of great urgency is the need of improvements at the Waiau Pa Wharf, which is dangeroues for carting at present. The matter has been before the County Council several times but nothing definite has been done. While on this matter your correspondent would like to draw the attention of the powers that be to the very poor accommodation for shipping goods to and from Onehunga. A few days ago a local genleman consigned three dressed pigs to an Auckland firm via Onehunga, They were carried on the deck of a launch and in the glare of a hot sun. The result was that on arrival they were condemned. This is a very serious matter from the producer’s point of •view and immediate steps should be taken to remedy the position.
