HEALTH CAMPS
CENTRAL COUNCIL MEETS The Otago and Southland Health Camp Central Council held its three-monthly meeting on Thursday, the Rev. J. Chisholm presiding. Tho Management Committee reported that plans were in hand for new playing equipment at the Roxburgh camp, and also for various alterations and improvements, which had been approved by the Dominion Advisory Board. The secretary presented the annual accounts of the Management Committee. It was noted that the cost of upkeep per child compared favourably with that of oilier institutions. With the. assistance received from the public through tho health stamp campaign' at present in progress, and* from donations, it was hoped that tho finances of the council would be, sound. Delegates reported that satisfactory results wore showing from the campaign, and it would therefore be possible for the summer camps to be run at Omani in .''outli--1 and. Pounawea in South Otago, and Kurow in North Otago. The Dunedin Committee hoped to be able (o support (he usual camp at Waikouaiti. The Dunedin Committee had conducted a street day and also a community sing, which had helped the funds considerably, and it was grateful for the assistance of the head masters of tho Dunedin schools, through whose good offices about £l2O in health stamps had been sold in the schools. The matron presented a report of the work at the permanent camp at Roxburgh, the King George V. Memorial Camp. There were 53 children at present in residence, and (hesc were showing tho benefit of the care given them. The children showed an average gain of nearly 61b in weight for the throe months’ period, and one boy had put on 151 b.
