COMMUNITY SING
To-day another large audience was present at the Strand Theatre, when the singing was again of a very high standard. One of the outstanding numbers was 1 Rule, Britannia,’ and the singing was so impressive that several donations were promised over the telephone. Mr H. P. Desmoulins received an ovation for his singing of * The British Lion.’ A special attraction to-day was Mr lan Collins,, winner of the men’s vocal scholarship at the Dunedin Competitions. He received a warm reception for his singing, especially ■ Yeomen of England.’ Only two more Friday sings will be held, and iho final night will be on Monday, November 16, in the Town Hall. Mr Desmoulins was leader, with Mr J. F. Himburg assisting, and Mr Alf. Petlilt at the piano. Proceeds were again for prisoner of war weekly parcels. Donations, goods, and promises were: £5, "Anon.” (St. Kilda), Waiwera Basketball Chib; £2, “ Anon.,” H.W.T., Clyde; £l, " Kia Ora ” (weekly), “ Soldiers’ - Parcels,” “A. M. Wellfed,” A.M.8.; 14s, Mrs Devitt (weekly); 10s, “Pensioner,” M. Duff (Edievale), Miss Little, “Friend of J.F.H.,” Mrs Chapman; 3s, “ Normanby ” (weekly); two puppies (Patcaroa) ; Gaelic Bible (Mrs Hunler); set: of Science of Business Books; plants (weekly), Jackson street, St. Kilda; goods (weekly), Mrs J. C. McGeorge; daffodils, Mr Draper, Waihola; donation (weekly), Vedic; flowers, Mrs Simmonds; tulips from Maungatua; goods, Mrs Martin (Ross Home), pair of socks, Russell, Bs. The collection amounted to £37.
