TEACHING PROFESSION
NOW lEOLAREI ESSENTIAL (Special.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 23. Teaching in all the schools and colleges under the jurisdiction of the Education Department or the University of Now Zealand has been declared essential. Announcing this to-day, the Minister of Industrial Man Power (the Hon. A. MeLagan) said that the ranks of the teaching profession had been heavily depleted by the withdrawal of men for military service, and the stage had been reached where every possible stop must be taken to conserve the teaching .stud's so as to maintain the minimum educational requirements. Mr MeLagan explained that it would now be necessary for a teacher wishing to transfer from a position with one education authority to a position with another to obtain the consent of the district man power officer. Such content was not required where the new position was under the same education authority.
The Minister added that the declaration did not apply to teachers employed in private schools.
