A. K. Didham’s mounts at Gore on Saturday will include Golden Hello, Strip, Courtdress, and Coy; A. Anderson will fine Maiden's Money and lie.punUe; and J. boilers will be on Prince i.eighnor. Green Aole, engaged m Lite iNoviee Handicap at . Gore, is a three-year-old Idly by Paper Money from Green ban, and is one of K. it. MeLellan s team. J Ins Idly is credited with a good turn of speed. It is reported troin Jlieeartoii that Hally liiinn was lame alter falling at Vvashdykc, and may have to be spelled for a while. Any spell just now must interfere with her chance of winning the Mew Zealand Cup next month.
'J here will be racing at Gore and Trentliam on .Saturday, and trotting meetings at Greymouth and Auckland. On Monday there will be racing at Trentham, Motukarara, Hamilton, and Wavcrlcy, and trotting at Auckland, Groymouth, and Oamarn. Josedale Grattan and Loyal Key arc the ruling favourites for the New Zealand Troting Gup. Josedale Grattan will be racing at Auckland on Saturday, and Loyal Rev in the Hannan Memorial Handicap at Oamarn on Monday. / If Bashful Lady starts in the Stewards’ Handicap at Gore on Saturday she will be making her first appearance in a race since winning the Winter Cup. The field is not a strong one, and her most dangerous opponent appears to be Spanish Lad, who has been sprinting well in his work at Invercargill. Messrs H. W. Blackic, K. Clark, and Captain R. G. Grccnslado have been nominated for iho two vacancies on the executive ol the Dunedin Jockey Club, and an election will be bold on November 3. Ballot papers will bo posted to the members and debenture holders in the course of a. few days.
Ha track (whose death was reported in Tuesday night’s issue) and Hurt Scott are owned by Mr V. Alborn, and Bronze Eagle (tbo other still in a bad way) J3V Mr W. J. Suitie. Alborn being the trainer of all three.' Last season Burt Scott headed the list of slake winners with £2,380; Bronze Eagle won £1,349, and Hal rack £4OO. All three were nominated for the Oamarn meeting, and Bronze Eagle is a New, Zealand Cup candidate. There was very little work of importance at Wingatui this morning, when the centre of the course proper was open for fast work and provided faster going than on Tuesday morning. Golden Bello began slowly from the half-mile post, and took*s7 2-ssec. Strip, wljo had an advantage in the weights carried, easily held Courtclress at the end of four furlongs in 54 2-ssec. Forte travelled well over half a mile, and looks in good condition for her engagement on Saturday. Boloyna set the main by running half a mile in 52sec, and Coy rati the same distance in 53‘ 4-ssec. One of the surprising features of the acceptances for the Gore meeting- was the poor response , from owners in the Novice Handicap. Out of 23 horses originally nominated only nine were paid up for. This is most unusual in a race of this class so early in the season, more particularly as (here was none engaged that looked likely io frighten the others out. Only Jonnara, Maiden’s Money, anil Royal Brief have so far faced the starter, and each of them only once, in a similar race at Wingatui early this month. Of the three, Maiden’s Money, by finishing sixth, did the best. Royal Brief was never near the leaders, and Jonnara spoiled any chance she may have hail by playing up badly at the barrier and getting badly left. By Paper Money from a Songbird mare, Jonnara is reported to show groat- pace in her work, but, judging by her behaviour at the barrier at Wingatui, is shaping well to be placed on the “ Schooling List.” Three winners of the Stewards’ Handicap and two winners of the New Cup bad their winding-up gallops in nubile at the Gore spring meeting. In 1925 Comic Song finished second 1 over seven furlongs on the second day of the fixture, and then went on to return his backers over the century for the pound tickets at Riccartnn, The next season be won the-Stewards’ Handicap after running second over six furlongs on the first day of the Gore meeting. In 1937 Alma won over six furlonss at Gore preparatory to winning the big sprint at the New Zealand Cup meeting. In 1916 Ardenvhor won the Spring Handicap, at Gore, and a fortnight later won the New Zealand Cup, and in 1933 Palantua won the same double. Niclit Pal is the only New Zealand Cnp candidate engaged in the mile and a-quartcr race on Saturday, and it is quite on the cards that lie will be able to repeat the good double scored hv bis dam Owing in the Cun meeting being held nearly a. month later than usual tin's season the nominal ions for the Stewards’ Handicap have not vet been taken North Canterbury Meeting.
