RUSSIA. RUGBY, October 20.—T0-night’s ■Moscow communique reports stubborn defensive lighting; at Stalingrad. In the area of one factory an enemy infantry regiment supported by 10 tanks, launched an attack which was repelled. The enemy suffered heavy losses when lie brought .up new forces and renewed these attacks. Fighting continued in the evening for these positions. German prisoners report that one German division fighting in the Stalingrad area lust 70 per cent, of its man power. Northwest of Stalingrad the Russians have consolidated their positions. In the Mosdok area the Russians dislodged the enemy from one locality and continued to push forward. Enemy attacks towards N'ovorossisk have been repulsed. THE SOLOMONS. RUGBY, October 20. —American bombers Ijavc blasted enemy troops, and supply concentrations on Guadalcanal for the third successive, day, -says a United States Navy Department communique. No report has been received of any oll'ensive operations against United States positions on Guadalcanal since the Japanese landed on October 15. Large numbers of enemy iiarships and auxiliaries were staled to be reported hr the Solomons urea.
