MONTHLY 'MEETING OF BOARD
The Otago Education Board held itsmonthly meeting this morning, the chairman (Mr J. Wallace) presiding. The Secretary stated that the department intimated that the quota for training students for the Otago district had been fixed at 74. Indications were _ that there would be a shortage in some districts, and it was probable. all suitable candidates would be required. The -Chairman reported having sent a telegram to the department suggesting tjiat as a war measure only, under-age students with higher leaving certificates or who had matriculated be.eligible. The department had replied stating that nothing could be done until it was known how nlany applicants there were in the Dominion under the existing age conditions. Touching on the question of training college students in the Army, the department also said' that the Army authorities had been requested to meet representatives of the department and the education boards to discuss the whole position.
