RACING
[By St. Claib.]
Track Work at Wingatui. Conditions for training operations at Wingatui this morning were almost perfect, and the centre of the course proper provided fast going, but few trainers worked their horses against the watch. Pianiste, who will be ridden by W. Connor at Gore on Saturday, was not doing her best when she ran three furlongs in 42seo. Golden Belle and Prince Leighon
ran the first furlong of four in 12 3-ssec, and completed the task in 53 4-ssee. the former doing it the better. Night Pal ran the last six furlongs of a mile in Imin ,20 3-ssec, and was being eased up at the finish. Strip was much too good for Steward over half a mile in 53 4-ssec. Last Refrain, who is still very big in condition, took 58sec to run half a mile.
Answer to . Correspondent. “ Sweep.”—The Press Association report of the platings in the hurdle race at Washdyke was correct—Lady Don, Adina, Norse. Newt and Views. >

Compeer is making a good recovery from the lameness he showed about three weeks ago, and his owner expects to have him back in work again shortly.
A. McDonald has taken Doctor Mao (Gustavo —Ravenna) in hand again. He has grown a little since racing as a two-year-old, but is still on the small side. Attractive Lady, who has a nice foal at foot to Royal Chief, has been mated this season with Man’s Pal.
Cough, the dam of Marquee, has been sold by the trustees of the late Mr T. Baird, and has also been mated with Man’s Pal.
Twenty-five three-year-olds remain in the Wellington Guineas, to be run next Saturday, and the field promises to be a record one for this classic.
J. W, Dooley will ride Jonnara, Gammer, Doubleaok, and Lord Midas in both of the last-named’s engagements at Gore on Saturday, and W. Connor will be on Pianiste, Filibeg, Rdyal Brief, and Taxpayer. It has often been remarked that filiies by Salmagundi have proved themselves much better than his colts. There is a sound reason for this, as since he has been at the stud in the Dominion he has sired about six fillies for every colt. The seven-year-old gelding Surveyor General, who did not commence racing until he was five years old, has been transferred to H. Gray’s stable. This Surveyor gelding has started in 40 races for 11 wins and 10 seconds, and has won up to a mile and a-quarter. Advice has been received that Desert Maid, after her bad behaviour at the barrier at Wingatui this month, has ■ been placed on the ‘ schooling list.” This accounts for her withdrawal at Washdyke on Saturday, and she will not be able to fulfil her engagements at Trentham this weekend. Twentyrfour different sires are - represented in' the nominations received for the New Zealand Cup. Those with more than one representative are: Beau Pere four, Myosotis three, and Colossus, Croupier, Foxbridge, Hunting Song, Lord Quex each two. Passengers can also travel by the 8.33 a.m. Invercargill express, which will also stop at the course siding. On the return journey a special train will leave Gore for Dunedin at 6.45 p.m. It is claimed that the straight-out trotter, Royal Worthy, will only have to retain his present form to have the Dominion Handicap and the New Zealand Trotting Qhampion Race, both to be run at Addington next month, at his mercy. When he won the Stewards’ Handicap at the New Brighton meeting he covered the two miles in 4min 26. l-ssec. It has been decided to close the nominations for the Dunedin Cup, Publicans’ Handicap, Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap, and Janies Hazletl Gold Cup on Friday, November 20.
