' RUGBY, October 1 .0 (Wireless). —Another United States Nary com-' mniii(|ue reports tlie following additional details of the action in the Solomons in recent days Outlie morning tit October 14 our planes damaged nine enemy planes on the beach at Rokata Bay. The same afternoon navy and marine divebombers with fighter escort from Guadalcanal made two attacks on enemy transports approaching the island. Minor damage was reported. One United States fighter was lost. On Wednesday night our positions were shelled by enemy vessels northward of the island. One motor torpedo-boats attacked ships reporting a probable torpedo hit on a cruiser. A large group of enemy ships has been observed near Shortland Island, in addition to various units in the south-eastern Solomons. WASHINGTON, October 16.—A stiff fight is going on in the Solomons and is still undetermined Colonel Knox told a Press conference, adding that he ex; w . :l:d an American victory.
