SOLDIER’S CHILDREN
ALLOWANCE FOR ALL (Special.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17 The War Cabinet’s decision to pay children’s allowances in respect of all dependent children under 16 years of age of soldiers was announced in the House by the Minister of Defence. He was replying to an urgent question by Mr Sullivan, who pointed out that under the present system children’s allowances were restricted _to five children, the effect of which was that the mother of tJ children was asked to manage on the same amount as a mother of five.
“ Should . not the responsibility of large families be recognised?” he asked. The Minister said that the necessary amendment of the Pay and Allowances Emergency 'Regulations to give effect to the War Cabinet’s decision had been prepared. It would come into operation cn November 1.
