COSMO HAMILTON

(Roc. 8 a.in.) LONDON, October 14... The' death is announced of Mr Cosmo Hamilton, dramatist and novelist. [Mr Cosmo Hamilton was the second son of Henry , Gibbs, and brother of Sir Philip Gibbs. He assumed his mother's name in 1893. He edited ‘ The World ’ from 1905 to 1906. and wrote a number of capital novels and plays. When , the Great War broke out he joined the Royal Naval Air Service, being gazetted a lieutenant in November, 1914. His many novels and short stories included ‘ Adam’s Clay,’ 1 ‘ Keepers of the House,’ ‘ The Blindness of Virtue,’ ‘ The Princess of New York,’ ‘ The Outpost of Eternity,’ ‘ The Miracle of Love.’ Among his plays were ‘ The Wisdom of Folly,’ ‘ The Mountain Climber,’ ‘ Arsene Lupin,’ and ‘ Mrs Skeffington.’] DAME MARE TEMPEST (British Official Wireless.) (Rcc. 10 a.m.) RUGBY, October 15. The death was announced this morning of Dame Mal-io Tempest. [Maris Susan Tempest was 78 years old. She ranked, probably, the greatest comedy actress of the English-speaking stage—occupying much the same niche .of fame as Rejano in France. Her early career was devoted opera, signal successes being as Fiametta in ‘ Boccaccio,’ and as Carmen, Dorothy, Manon, and Mignca in the operas bearing those names. In 1900 she graduated to the legitimate stage, scoring enormous successes as Becky Sharp, Kitty in ‘ The Marriage of Kitty,’ ‘ Mrs Dot,’ ‘ Penelope.’ She toured New Zealand in 1917. annearing in ‘ Grod Gracious, Ainiabelle,’ ‘ The Marriage of Kitty,’ and other plays.
