GOLF ASSOCIATION
WAR-TIME DIFFICULTIES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. “ War conditions have caused a heavy loss of membership,” said Sir Alexander Eoberts at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Association to-day, “ seventyeight clubs having left the association last ye'ar, reducing the number to 245.” Sir Alexander spoke of the difficulty facing golfers in keeping the game going, particularly in regard to the supply of balls. He mentioned, however, that a synthetic ball ■was being produced in Anierica which might perhaps ease the position. The report mentioned that £1,500 had been invested in the war loan. The loss on the year’s working was £75 9s sd, but the accumulated fund remained at £1,900. A suggestion was put forward that where practicable, courses should be altered to eliminate areas in which balls were liable to be lost. The council of the association was reelected.
