ANGLICAN SYNOD
The Synod of the Diocese of Dunedin met again yesterday afternoon, when Bishop Fitchett presided. In connection with clergy stipends, it was resolved—*’ That this Synod recommends to all church officers the appeal made by the bishop in bis opening address to Synod, that the stipends of all clergy bo raised m keep- ' ing with the increases in other vocations to meet the rising cost of living, and that church officers in each parish and parochial district be requested to inform the registrar of the decision as to vrhat action has been The following resolution was passed " That this Synod gives its support to the alms and wont of the National Council of Churches in New Zealand, and in particular to the Campaign for Christian Order initiated by .that council.” Many clergy and laymen spoke in support of the motion. Discussion took place about the difficulties of finding adequate staff for the children s , homes, and the following resolution was passed“ That church women of the diocese should look upon the work of staffing the children’s homes as essential work, and consider it a vocational duty.” In the evening the Synod service was held in St. Paul’s Cathedral, the office of evensong being sung by Dean Cnuckshank. The first lesson ■was read by the Rov. F. H. Wadron, and the second by Archdeacon Lush. Archdeacon Button conducted tho intercession,' and Dr Y. E. Galway was tho organist. The Rev. W. L. S. Harbrowi, delivered the address. ■ A “ ouiet hour” for the clergy, which was held in the morning, was. conducted' by the Rev. S. A. Grave.
