The ‘ Christian Science Monitor’s ’ Washington correspondent says immediate action by the Chilean Government to uproot espionage, which has already cost the United Nations many ships and men, is expected. Informed quarters hero simultaneously stated authoritatively that the situation regarding Nazi activity was becoming worse in Argentina. There was positive and unimpeachable evidence that the Argentine Government recently took drastic steps to protect Nazis from counter-action by private citizens. , This openly undemocratic gesture is considered here as giving the Germans a greater measure of support than they ever enjoyed in the Argentine. Information shows that Mr Sumner Welles had abundant- justification when ho made the charge in his Boston speech on October 9 that the United Nations were being stabbed in the back by Axis emissaries in the Argentine and Chile. MR WENDELL WILLKIE TO MAKE CANDID REPORT TO PEOPLE (Rec. 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 14. Air Wendell' Willkie told the New York ‘ Herald-Tribune ’ that ho intends to make a full, frank, and candid report to the American people, possibly on the radio, discussing a second front, also tho rules of censorship pertaining to news transmitted to America. The contemplated renunciation of British extraterritorial rights in China does not include transference of Hongkong back to the Chinese nation,’ said the Foreign Under-Secretary, replying in the House of Commons to a question.
