—Vice-regal.— The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall returned to Wellington from Nelson yesterday. Mr T. G. Boyd has been elected chairman of the Mosgiel District High School Committee in place of Mr E. W. Cate, who was recently transferred to Culverden. ' The service given to motoring m Otago by Messrs H. L. Sprosen and C. W. Sundstrum, who have relinquished their seats on the executive of tha Automobile Association, was referred to by the president (Mr P. W. Breen) at the executive meeting last night. Mr Sprosen has been a member since 1908 and Mr Sundstrum for a period of 10 years It was decided to convey the association’s appreciation to both members. Two vacancies on the Mosgiel School Committee have been filled by the selection of Messrs Wood and W. E. Finnie. They were welcomed at last uight’a meeting bv the chairman. The president of the Otago Expansion League, Mr H. M. Maokay, made reference last evening to the death of Mr Charles Todd, who from 1918 to 1923 had been president of the league. Ho said that Mr Todd had rendered yeomau service to the organisation and, to New Zealand generally. His memory would long remain fresh with the people of Otago, where his work had been of inestimable value. _ At last night’s meeting of the Mosgiel School Committee the rector spoke of the death of Miss McWhitty (a member of the staff). This teacher was a most mopular one, and the scholars regretted her death very much. Their sympathy had been expressed in the sending of eight wreaths. Similar tributes had been sent by the rector and staff. At the request of the chairman the committee stood in silence as a tribute of respect to the late teacher’s memory. Latest registrations at the Grand Hotel include Mr D. D. O’Connor (Auckland), Mr and Mrs B. F. Kelly, Mr Gage (Wellington) ; Mr and Mrs O. G. Qjhnour (Invercargill). Staying at the City Hotel are Mr and Mrs P. Graham (Gisborne). Mr W. Fraser (Auckland), Mr and Mrs T. A. Smith, Mrs R. B. Bannerman (Wellington), Mr M. James (Greymouth). Mr R. H, Miles, Second-lieutenant and Mrs G. de Thier (Christchurch), Mr W. Paten (Oamaru), Mr J. Price, Mr L. Pringle (Invercargill), Captain H. Hasgard (Bluff). Guests at Wain’s Hotel-include Mr and Mrs R. E. Shand (Levin), Mr F t J. Pohlen, Mr M. C. MacLeod (Wellington), Miss A. Wallace. Miss J % T. Anderson, Miss E. R. Anderson (Nelson).
