BURNSIDE MARKET
In the fat cattle section at the Burnside market to-day there was a keen demand for all good quality beef. Medium quality, which comprised the bulk of the yarding, wai easier by £1 a head, while cows and heifers also showed an easing of 10s a. head. Fat sheep met with keen competition, and all classes were 2s a head above last week’s rates. Porkers again met with a keen sale n the pig section, and were 2s to 3s a head belter than last week’s high values. Saconens drew keen competition, and bowed an improvement of between 4s and is a head. With the exception of medium ieef all sections met with animated com•etition. Lambs to the number of 35 were enned, this being the first yarding of the eason. The top price for bullocks was £3O 7s 6d, .nd for heifers £l9 17s 6d. Woolly wethers »rought up to 50s 9d, and ewes 45» 6a. Baconers made up to £7, and best lambs to 44s fid.
The Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club began Us weekly series of handicap races at the Municipal Batbs last night, when races in the under 12 class were held. The following were the results: —33 1-3 Yards, Boys: J. Scrivener (2see) 1, T. Williams (scr) 2, I). Kantin (4sec) 3. Girls; G. Emmerson (fisec) 1, H. Forsyth (sscc) 2, N. Wilkie (fiscc) 3.
