THREE CRUISERS IN INITIAL SOLOMONS ACTION LONDON. October 13. A Washington Navy Department communique has announced the loss of three heavy United States cruisers— Quincy, Vincennes, and Astoria. These three vessels wore lost during the initial action in the Solomon Islands in August, at about the time the Canberra was sunk. The action took place at night, but most of the crews were saved, although there were some casualties. The three cruisers were of tho Minneapolis class, each with a complement of 594. The Quincy was of 9,375 tons, and the Vincgnnos and Astoria of 9,950 tons.
