LIBERTY LOAN

FIRST DAY INVESTMENTS The second Liberty Loan was opened for subscription yesterday, and though the applications received from country districts were not many, the response from the city was more encouraging. The applications for the day represented a total of both classes of stock of £3,280, which, with advance subscriptions amounting to £75,030, including one from ihe Dunedin Savings Bank of £50,000, brings the total for the first day to £78,310. This is a satisfactory start, and the Otago Committee, which aims to raise £BOO,OOO for the province, is hopeful that the goal will be reached well before the closing date.
