REFUSAL TO SERVE
THREE BROTHERS SENTENCED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 7. Three brothers who refused to serve in the military forces appeared for sentence before Mr J. H. Luxford, S #W to-day. They were Reginald mach'er, Robert Radenuaeher, and Frederick Radermaeber. Mr Hogbeu appeared for the brothers’ mother, who, ho said, had asked him to inform the court that her sons had at all times objected to participation in war and had been brought up in that belief. They had previously told the court that they wea - e political objectors, but that was not correct. Some person must have recently influenced them. ■ “ The case is unusual,” the Magistrate said. “ The three brothers steadfastly object. They told mo that it was on political grounds, and now counsel states that they are conscientious objectors.” After reading the police report, Mr Luxford said that Reginald and Robert ' Radermaeber had records, and had been convicted of resisting the police. The report stated that they were not lit subjects for a defaulters’ camp. Frederick Radermaeber had not been under the notice of the police. “ You have made up your minds to resist the law,” said Mr Luxford, sentencing the three men to three months’ imprisonment.
