SOUTH OTAGO NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) Personal. —Mr A. L. Cameron, present acting town clerk at Geraldine, has been appointed town clerk at Balclutha in succession to Mr E. B. Lothian, who has been appointed to a similar position at Stratford. —Mr and Mrs E. B. Lothian left Balclutha on Monday en route for their new home in Stratford. Prior to their departure they were the guests of honour at a public farewell function. The mayor (Mr Copland) made the presentation of a monetary gift, and members of various organisations referred to the interest taken by Mr Lothian and his wife in various ways. After church on Sunday night Mr and Mrs Lothian were the recipients of a set of books as a mark of appreciation for the interest they had taken in the Presbyterian Church during their 20 years’ residence in Balclutha.
Hockey.—At a meeting of delegates of the South Otago Hockey Association it was agreed to close the shield competition, owing to the scarcity of available dates, also to abandon the open seven-a-side tournament. It was agreed to invite Southland to visit South Otago on Sepember 12 or 26, whichever dae is most suitable. Teams from South Otago clubs will bo taking part in both the A and B grade seven-a-side tournaments to be held in Dunedin this month. General. —Whitebait have commenced to “ run ” in small quantities in the Molyneux, and quite a number have been caught in the vicinity of Kaitangata.—At the annual meeting of Owaka Bowling Club Mr J. Hogg was elected president, Mr E. Wilson vice-president, Mr H. C. AIIoo secretary, and Mr T. Maginnes auditor. The balance sheet was satisfactory, and opening day was fixed for October 17.
