PILLAGER'S RUSE FAILS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. Bryan Charles McCarthy (32), n wntorsider, finding three bottles of nun in a ship's hold, tied one to one leg and two to the other inside his trousers with silk stockings. As he walked off the ship the bottles clinked and a constable investigated. Defending counsel told the court that McCarthy found the bottles loose among some sawdust and succumbed to temptation. Ho was working while on furlough from military duty. The police said he had a very bad record and .the magistrate (Mr Stout) sentenced him to three months’ hard labour.
