Bomber Command machines attacked on 12 nights, generally in strength. Bombers also operated over Germany or occupied territory on five days. The attack* on Kassel, Saarbrucken, Frankfurt. Mainz, and Duisburg were heavy, and the outstanding daylight operations were single bomber attacks on Hanover. Wilhelmshaven. Frankfurt, and Emden.In the Middle East 58 targets were attacked throughout the month. Though continuous throughout _ the month, the German attacks on Britain were consistently light and scattered, with results in no way comparable tothe (R.A.F offensive. The enemy lost in all 161 aircraft. The R.A.F. .lost 271, In the Middle East, including Malta, the Axis lost 86 and th© Allies lost 106.
