GAY BOA. WINS BIG EVENT STRIP GOMES TO LIGHT IK HURDLES A perfect spring day, excellent fields, and the prospect of interesting' racing attracted a very big crowd to Wingatui for the Otago Hunt Club’s annual meeting The track was in first-rate order. Thomson), Strip, Auctor, and Distress Signal were just'in front of Phalanx and Royal Donald on landing over the first hurdle. At the next Phalanx joined Strip in the lead, and they were in charge along the back from Auctor and Donadea. Rounding the far turn, Donadea moved up very smartly, and Phalanx dropped out. Donadea was first into the straight from Auctor and Strip, and led this pair over the last hurdle. Then Strip put in a fast run, and just caught Donadea to beat him by a head, with Auctor a long head away third; then wide gaps to Rocxery and Heidelberg. Time, 2.48 3-5. At the ■ far turn Victory Boy broke, and left Glare to show the way across the top. Then Absolately moved up quickly, and was first into the straight from Glare, Vault, Free Bond, and Sandstone. The last-named took charge at the distance, and then ran to the outside of the course, leaving Vault in charge, but when straightened up came again and won by two and a-half lengths from Free Bond, with three lengths to Vault, Glare was next. Mitchell’s ch g, aged, 11.8 (I. Walther) 2 8-B—Master Dingle, Mr H. S. Orbell’s br g, aged, 10.10 (R. Holland) 3 Also started: 44 Bally Brit 11.9 (A. Ingram), 5-5 Prince Flaneur 11.2 (A. Leach), 3- Golden Glow 9.11 (D. A. Hamill), 7-7 Roseman 9.4 (W. Connor), 9-9 Neptune 9.0 car. 9.3| (C. F. Low), 6-6 Susie 9.0 (R. A. Gibson). Roseman quickly drew out a dozen lengths clear, and led to the brush double, where be ran off, leaving Prince Flaneur in charge from Golden ,Glow, Valens, and Bally Brit. Prince Flaneur was first over the ppst-and-rails. Then Bally Brit took charge and showed out over the stand double from Gay Boa, Prince Flaneur, Golden Glow, Valens, and Master-Dingle. Going to the back Gay Boa led from Valens, with Master Diuglo and Golden Glow close up, just clear of Prince Flaneur. At the post-and-rails both Valens and Golden Glow outjumped Gay Boa, but they were together again at the water jump. Running up on the inside of Valens to the last fence, Gay Boa was first into the straight,, and led Valens home by three lengths, with Master Dingle four lengths away third, and Golden Glow next. Both Neptune and Susie fell. Time, 4.31. (If the time was correctly registered it is a world’s record.) PRESIDENT’S HACK HANDICAP, £2OO. sf. 2-3—Cruden Bay, Mr A.
