EGYPTIAN BATTLE. LONDON, September 2.—The enemy has not penetrated our organised defence areas on any part of the 'Egyptian front, says a correspondent’s report from that front to-day. Generally it is quiet and no armoured clashes are reported. The Imperial forces on the southern sector heavily shelled and bombed the Axis forces. The ‘ Express ’ military correspondent eays American reports suggest that another British division has reached Cairo. STALIN GUI AD ’ S DANGER. LONDON, September 2.—The position of Stalingrad is now described as most serious. Unconfirmed reports .state that the outer suburbs arc under shellfire. The Germans north of Stalingrad have reached the Volga bank, where bitter fighting is raging. UNTIL VICTORY IS WON. The following statement was made by the Prime Minister, Mr Eraser, in Washington to-day; “On the third anniversary of the outbreak of war the New Zealand people will, I know, desire to renew their . pledge to continue the struggle for however long, until victory is achieved, and to count no sacrifice too great to achieve that end. I feel I can say with truth to the Government and people of the United States that we in New Zealand are undeterred by disappointment and the losses which were inevitable in the circumstances in which war was forced upon us, that we look forward with confidence to the ultimate outcome, and that our main desire is to march with the other United Nations in the cause of justice and liberty.” —Wellington Association message. •Father’s Day brings pleasure to mother, the boys and girls, so why pot be happy.
