RUSSIAN ADVANCE CONTINUES SOVIET ABTILIIEY ACTIVE (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 8 a.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 2. The Russians are continuing weir adivance on the central front, says the Moscow radio, and all the German efforts to stop the advance have failed. In one sector the enemy were dislodged from a key position. The enemy retreated, but brought up reserves and launched a successful counter-attack In spite of numerical inferiority, the Russians rallied, and in turn pushed the enemy back. Soviet artillery inflicted heavy losses on the retreating enemy. During the day the Germans launched '27 ’counter-attacks in order to retake the lost positions, hut all were beaten off. SIBERIA OR INDIA? JAPAN'S NEXT MOVE (Rec. n. 55 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 2. Tokio official radio announced that General Tojo stated that no alteration in foreign policy would result from the change in the Ministry. Wilfrid Fleisher, ‘ Herald-Tribune’s 1 former Tokio correspondent, says Mr Togo’s resignation resulted from an internal policy dispute whether a move should be made against Siberia or India. The Associated Press says foreign observers who believe the . The leading Chinese and English newspapers, the ‘ Ta Kung Pao ’ and the ‘ National Herald,’ say that the resig-nations-of Mr Togo and his deputy, Harohito Nishi, portend) a new hold move of the war party.
