APPEALS BEFORE BOARD The No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board (Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., and Messrs J. Price and H. Hodgson) continued its sitting this morning, when a number of appeals, either for release from camp os for exemption from service were dealt with, Mr A. N. Haggitt represented the Crown. The Agricultural Department appealed for the release of D. Hannah, supervisor ■(immediate release recommended)'; and for S. W. Geddes, supervisor (released until November 11); Hislop and Gibson for W. J. Fraser, mechanic (dismissed); J. F. Nesbit, motor cycle mechanic (adjourned sine die); A. Chadwick, garage proprietor (appeal withdrawn, on condition appellant not called up before September 30); Hayes and Lyders Ltd., for W. Garr, garage fore,man (adjourned sine die); Walkers Service Station, for G. D. T. Walker, motor mechanic (dismissed); Angus Mo tees Ltd., for W. A. Ford, motor mechanic (adjourned sine die); Dunedin Taxis Ltd., for A. Rust, motor mechanic (adjourned sin* die); Hunt and Gardner, fer J. H. .Boswell, mechanic (adjourned sine die); Otago Motors Ltd for A. D. McAlwee (adjourned sine die); Napier Motors Ltd. for D. S. Binning; R. Cleghorn, T. E. H. Godfrey, C. E. Mitchell, J. H. Walker, L. A. Keogh, mechanics (adjourned to December 3); and for R. M. Waide, apprentice (dismissed); G. W. Bechcp, butcher, and Palmer and Son Ltd., for R. V. S. Hayward (appeal* for release dismissed); Brown and Turner for C. S. Turner (release for two months), and Otago Leather Goods Ltd. for C. W, Campbell, machinist (immediate release). In the majority of cases where appeal* were adjourned sine die, appellants were. ordered to servo in the Home Guard.
Yesterday afternoon the following appeals were dealt with Director of National Service for J. W. Kane, clerk (recommended for release); R. O’C. Shiel, motor. dealer (dismissed,; not- to -beacalled-upbefore Oc- :- tober 31); J. .O. Roxburgh (dismissed, not to be called up before November 30); Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company Ltd., for C. H. Robinson, fireman" (adjourned sine die); Millers’ Shipping, for A. W. Miller, shipping providore (adjourned till October 31) ; Union Steam Ship Company Ltd., for T. A. Tarrant, adjuster (adjourned sine die); Crust and Crust, for R. S. Newman, driver (dismissed, not to, be called up before Oc-. tober 31); New Zealand Breweries, for J. J. O’Neill, foreman, T. C. Burks, bottler, and Miss H. Foley, bookkeeping operator, (first two allowed, and Miss Foley’s withdrawn) ; T. Stewart (adjourned three months); Abbotsford Tileries, for S. Tippet, tilemaker (adjourned sine die): T. O’Fea, road foreman (adjourned three months); Mrs Westell, fot her husband, J. E. Westell (adjourned sine die); Wilkinson and Son, for T. Hollebon, apnrentice (adjourned sine die); National Bank, for A. G. ,S. McDonald, bills clerk (further release for three months).
