AIR ATTACKS ON BURMA

(British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 1.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 1. A New Delhi communique states that in an offensive reconnaissance in Burma on Sunday the R.A.F. 'bombed and machine-gunned Kalewa, on the Chindwin River. Hits were scored on buildings and river boats, and all the planes returned safely. A Chungking message says American bombers attacked Alyitkina, in Burma, on Monday, starting large fires. Barracks, warehouses, and railway buildings were the targets.
