APPEAL FOR SECOND FRONT
ALL GERMAN RESERVES HOW ENGAGED (ißec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, Sept 1. < Pravda,* in an article on the tiura anniversary of the outbreak of war, urges the immediate opening of a second front by the United Nations, adding: “ Hitler has hurled all his reserves into the battle for Russia and has laid bare the shores of the Atlantic. It is most important that his plans should be upset now. The (Russian, as well as the British and American people, know this, and they know how important it is to bring greater activity into the struggle against the common enemy.” ‘ Izvestia ’ says the last hope of the German imperialists is to outpace the anti-Hitler coalition and achieve a decisive success before all the, (potential resources are brought into play and befor Allied army activity supports the struggle of the Soviet people. This scheme must and will be thwarted. Herr Rosenberg, in an article in the ‘ Voelkischer Beobachter,’ has advised the Germans that they must get used to the idea of war for another 30 years. WORE SACRIFICES URGED HITLER ADDRESSES HOME FRONT WAR’S FOURTH WINTER APPROACHING (Rec. 1 p.m.) ' LONDON, Sept 1. Hitler, in a statement from his headquarters, appealed for voluntary sacrifices for winter help work. He said: “ Our soldiers are staking life and health on an enormous front. The majority of the millions in the Far East have made a pact with them that will prevent our land falling under the bar* barism of Bolshevik exploitation or of Anglo-Saxon ■ Capitalism; _ Britain and America to-day are asserting that they desire a new and better world system, but why was it necessary for thart to attack Germany? National Socialism has already solved or is solving social problems. The aim of the international criminals is not to build a better social world but the brutal annihilation of National Socialism and enslavement of the kind India is suffering. “It is the task of German soldiers and workers to destroy the hopes of the international gold grubbers and Bolshevik beasts and to make it clear that this war will not end with further exploitation by the possessing nations, but with the decisive victory of the * have-nots.’ 1 expect the home front to do its duty in the fourth winter ot the war.” A GERMAN CLAIM WITHIN FIFTEEN KILES OF STALINGRAD LONDON, September 1. The Stockholm representative of the ‘ Daily Express ’ reports that a Gemini column consisting ot several hundred tanks, supported by a great number of Stukas and fresh infantry regiments, advanced lour miles towards Stalingrad along the Kotelnikovo-Sta-lingrad railway. The Germans claim to hav reached the last defence belt 15 miles from the city’s centre. The Germans were severely mauled during this advance •by artillery and Voroshilov tanks, and at some points they lost 80 per cent, of their men and tanks. The latest messages state that Marshal Timoshenko has sent in fresh reserves, who are holding well.
