DUKE OF KENT
MAORIS' MESSAGE TO KING (PA.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. In reply to the recent message of sympathy sept by the Maoris in consection with the death of Kent the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall has received the following message from the King: ,^5, as ® convey to the Maori people of New Zealand the sincere thanks of myself and rav family for their kind message of sympathy, 'which we so greatly appl\Cl message of sympathy in the death of the Duke of Kent has also been received bv the Government from Norwegian 'residents in the Dominion through the honorary Consul for Norway, Mr Jack Halligan. LOCAL BODY RESOLUTIONS. At the monthly meeting of the Green Island Borough Council last night the mayor- (Mr G. A. Orange) moved that tlie council should, in common with other local bodies in the Dominion, express its profound sympathy with the Royal Family in the loss they have suffered in the death of the Duke of Kent. The motion was carried in silence. . , , . A similar motion was earned at the mouthlv meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council on the suggestion of the mayor (Mr E. J. Taylor).
