BATTLE RENEWED
Rommel Makes Forward Move Significant Stir In Desert War Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright (Received noon.) LONDON, August 31. A Cairo communique says that German forces have moved forward on the southern flank of the Egyptian battle line. During the past few days there had been increased activity, indicating some movement on Rommel’s part. Last night German forces, including armoured vehicles, launched an attack against the southern flank. These forces were immediately engaged by our light forces, and fighting is proceeding. It is not yet known whether the movement of the Germans is the beginning of a general offensive. On the centre of the front a secondary attack by the Italians was launched, but this was repulsed, with heavy losses to the enemy. Gathering momentum in the air war has been a feature of operations in Egypt during the past few days, our planes striking far behind the enemy lines at supply columns and stores, and out into the Mediterranean on enemy shipping.
