SKIRTS, NOT SLACKS
AUCKLAND'S WOMEN CONDUCTORS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 31. Tho decision that women tram conductors continue to wear skirts and not slacks, as suggested by a board member, Mrs Dreaver, was made by the Auckland Transport Board. The secre-tary-manager (Mr A. K. Ford), in his report, stated that it was necessary to provide a uniform which would ensure the maximum of respect from all sections of the travelling public and the diversities of age, types, and figures of women conductors necessitated a dress suitable to all. Points for consideration were the additional amount of cloth required and the incongruous appearance of out-size women wearing slacks for tramways work. The majority of the conductors were satisfied with the present uniform, and recommended that it be adhered to.
The manager’s report was adopted, Airs Dreaver voting against it.
