“POSTIL'S ’’ DRIVE
finds for all purposes appeal OVER £1,300 COLLECTED The All Purposes Patriotic Fund will benefit by well over £1.300 as a result of the drive for funds conducted by the ■“posties” on Saturday. The initial count showed the returns as £1,313, but more money is coming in. When it is considered that the drive took place at tho tail cud of an arduous collecting campaign the results achieved have been remarkable and are a credit to the thoroughness of those concerned. Tho coin collected, all in silver pieces, was more than sufficient to fill a largo coal sack. Postmen, postwomen, (Boy and Sea Scouts participated. Assisted by about 80 Boy and Seal Scouts and also several women members of tho Post Office staff, the postmen and postwomen found the work of collecting pleasant. Most of the householders were anxious to co-operate, many saving extra work by coming to their front gates with their donations when the familiar whistle was heard. In tho early afternoon the posties ami their assistants, tired, but with full eolelction boxes, returned to the Chief Post Office, where the accountant and eight tellers from the money order branch spent from noon to 6 o’clock counting the coins. When interviewed this morning, Mr R. Forrester, the supervisor of postmen, who organised the drive, said that everything in connection with the collection had been carried out according to schedule, and that he was more than pleased with the result.
