TAKING PRECAUTIONS.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —I warned a fair friend a little tim« ago that I was going to put in some plants, such as Cabbages, cauliflowers, etc., but Sha advised me not to do so. I wanted her and others to help. As I belong to th* contrary sex, I went along by myself and put half a hundred plants' into the planet right away, and then got down to business preparing ground for the King Edward potatoes to be inserted shortly, as we do not know what trouble we may be up against sooner than we expect. In Eng> land it was the rule to dig in and grow vegetables, etc., and it is a pity that some of our unemployed could not be pub on planting out vegetable?, the same as when the world slump was on. The way I am placed at present I do not require these vegetables, but some people will, who have no means of growing for themselves, and I don’t want payment. If I had the time I would go right out and put in a lot of things. Looking ahead, there are no end of things we could do, as it ia as well to be prepared. The people in Singapore, Malaya, and Hongkong (in largo numbers) thought they were free from invasion, but it has happened in those places, and mav come to our shores. Malta was prepared, and she has stood up to Germany and Italy. If we' do, as well, victory is certain. Hats off, and three cheers for her, anyhow.—l am. etc., August 28 Arthur Picard.
