CARNIVAL INSTEAD OF SHOW A decision was reached at the monthly meeting of the Otago A. and P. Society on Thursday afternoon to dispense with a full summer show schedulfe this year and to hold instead a light-horse carnival in conjunction with the military authorities for patriotic purposes. The date of the carnival was not fixed, but it was agreed that it should bo he’d towards the end of November. Mr K. Clark presided.
The Chairman referred to the death of Mr A. P. Douglas, a past president,, Mr James Smith, a past president and life member, and Mr R. P. Lenz. ■ Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to their memory. Accounts amounting to £348 13s 7d were passed for payment. The bank balance was shown to bo in credit £1,651 Os 6d, and outstanding cheques amounted to £45 9s 6d. The revaluation of Tahuna Park while in other occupation was received and noted.
The Grounds and Buildings Committee reported that repairs were being carried out to the office and board room, and the secretary was instructed to go into the question of having a complete line of past presidents’ photographs of standard size mounted in consecutive order in the board room. The committee also reported that Tahuna Park would be made available for the Clydesdale stallion parade on September 24, and it was noted that already a number of entries had been received. Mr A. G. Geddes, of Methven, had been asked to judge the classes.
It was decided to hold the next committee meeting on September 24, after the horse parade.
