NAZIS FEAR BIG RAIDS
PEOPLE WARNED TO STOCK SHELTERS (Rec. 1.5 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 27. The 1 Frankfurter Zeitung ’ issues a warning against what it calls the new. British incendiaries, which explode about five minutes after they are dropped, and can only be put out from behind stone walls. The newspaper also warns the population to store sufficient food in raid shelters for several days, also bedding and birth certificates. SPIES IN HOLY BEACON SIGNALLERS TO U-ROATS (Rec. 1.5 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 27. The venerated “ Christ the Redeemer Beacon ” at Rio de Janeiro recently developed a slight irregularity. Investigation Revealed that Nazi spies had used the beacon for signalling submarines. One operator was arrested and the other shot. INCITING TO STRIKE MINERS FINED SYDNEY. August 27. Two coal miners charged with inciting five young wheelers to strike were each fined £lO in the Arbitration Coiirt, and the wheelers were each fined £5. “ An action such as yours might incur the displeasure of the community,” said the judge. “ Maybe it would think your actions traitorous.” The men were liable to punishment of £IOO fine and 12 months’ imprisonment. The judge said he was dealing leniently with the men, but in future penalties would be much heavier.
