LOGAN PARK TRAM
TEMPORARY SERVICE SUGGESTED The Transport Committee of the City Council will report as follows to the council meeting on Monday night concerning the Logan Park tram line: In response to a request from the Minister of Transport to reduce bus mileage by 25 per cent, for the purpose of conserving both petrol and tyres, proposals providing for such a reduction were submitted to and approved by the Metropolitan Licensing Authority. Included in the proposals submitted was a reduction of 73 per cent, in the bus running on the Park line, involving the reinstatement of the half-hourly tram service on this route, and leaving the buses to augment the service at busy periods by runin°- to Dundas street. The arrangement proposed provides a 15-minuto service at peak periods. As the Order in Council governing the running of trams on the Logan Park line has been revoked, application has been made to the Government Public Works Department for sanction to tho temporary running of the tram service. Tho rails between Harbour Terrace and the terminus have been removed, and a commencement has been made to remove the ‘ out ’ line between Harbour Terrace ami Castle street, and the proposais submitted above will necessitate the running of the trams on the wrong side of the street. It will be possible to coniimie tliis temporary service for approximately six months, by which time it will 'nr necessary io make a commencement with ihe removal of the remaining rails for m-oeni repairs on the main lines.”
