THE AGE BENEFIT
ENLARGEMENT OF SCOPE (P.A.) AV'ELLINGTON, Aug.. 27. A further enlargement of the scope of the ago benefit section of the Social Security Act is made by emergency regulations in to-night’s ‘ Gazette.’ The now regulations provide that when the period of employment during which an ago beneficiary has not received the benefit ceases, the earnings of the beneficiary may ho exempted under the income section of the Act when an application is made for renewal of the benefit. The Minister of Social Security, Air Parry, stated to-night that tho new provision would largely benefit tho seasonal worker. Although they would benefit ago beneficiaries generally, the regulations- removed particularly a handicap from the seasonal worker in regard to his earnings when, on the cessation of his period of employment, ho applied for reinstatement of tho ago benefit. The regulations would also facilitate re-absorption of physically fit age beneficiaries into industry.
