DIVERSIONARY OFFENSIVE
SOVIET DRIVE ON MOSCOW SECTOR GERMAN LOSSES 45,000 KEN (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. noon.) s RUG BY, August 20. A special announcement from Moscow says that 15 days ago th* Soviet troops assumed an offensive in the region of Rjev and Viazma, and also Kalinin. In the first two days of an attack on a front of 209 miles, the Germans were forced back between 25 and 30 miles over a9O miles front. The lost 45,000 killed, and the booty included 250 tanks.
