PARLIAMENT BUILDING
IMPORTANT EXTENSIONS (Special.) WELLINGTON, August 27. Work has commenced on an important addition to Parliament Building to provide a badly-needed extension. The Prime Minister’s office accommodation in the new building is to he on the roofs of the northern part, fronting the three elevations. Making this announcement, Mr aullivan, Acting Prime Minister, said the great expansiop of New Zealand’s war effort, both in operative and administrative matters, had taxed the office accommodation of Parliament House far beyond its capacity for normal times. Every expedient had been tried to cope with tho problem, and the Government decided to call a halt to alterations and makeshifts, which were more expensive than effective, and to provide new accoinmodation on tho Jtiaiu roof. Construction would be of light material, harmonising in form and colour with the permanent structure. “ I need scarcely emphasise, added Mr Sullivan. “ that a vital feature of the administrative work in war conditions is its secret and confidential nature. For instance, meetings of tho War Cabinet and Administration should be held iu a place affording the greatest security, and the same conditions apply to the’staff.” _____
