Lighter entries in fat sheep had the effect of an improved market which was especially noticeable in ewes. Heavy cattlo were easier by £1 a head, while tho medium descriptions were on a par with last week. Baconers were firm at late rales, while porkers were easier by 4s to 5s a bead. Extra prime cows, to £ls 12s 6d; prime, £9 7s 6d to £ll 7s 6d; medium, £8 7s 6d to £8 17s 6d; light, £6 2s 6d to £6 17s 6d.

The number of fat sheep offered was approximately 1,900. There was a larger yarding of wethers than usual, including many pens Of fine quality, prices for these being on a par with last week’s figures. Ewes were in shorter supply, and improved to the extent of 2s a head on last week. Prime heavy wethers, to 465; price, 39s to 41s 6d; medium, 35s to 375; light and ordinary, 28s 6d to 30s 6d; prime heavy ewes, to 33s 6d; prime, 28s 9d, to 30s 9d; medium, 26s 6d to 28s 6d; light, from 16s 6d. The entry of porkers was larger than that of last week; consequently prices were easier by 4s to 5s a head, and in places there was a further easing. Baconers were in better supply and met a ready sale at prices equal to last week;. Best baconers, £5 9s to £6; medium, £4 8s to £5 4s; light, £3 19s to £4 3s; best porkers, £3 14s to £3 18s; medium, £3 4s to £3 10s; light, £2 16s to £3 3s. The entry of store pigs was a medium one, and prices generally for all classes were firm, best weaners making from 27s 6d to 31s; medium, 24s to 265; slips, 36s to 40s. Store cattlo provided a medium entry, and in consequence there was a keen demand, prices being equal to those of last week. Three-year-old steers made from £lO to £lO 10s; two and a-half to three-year-olds, £9 to £lO ss. The entry in tho vealer section was small, being barely sufficient for butchers’ requirements.
