An extraordinary message states: Air Commodore the Duke of Kent was killed on active service when a Sunderland flying boat crashed north of Scotland. , All the members of the crew of the Sunderland flying boat, which was on its way to Iceland, lost their lives. The Duke, who had flown many thousands of miles, was the first member of the Royal Family to cross the Atlantic by air.
