PILLAGED STOCKINGS
A WARNING TO HOUSEWIVES The pillaging of imported rationed o-oods has been a matter of some concern for merchants and others for some time past. Among articles stolen in transit from manufacturer to reseller are silk stockings. Of 100 dozen pairs one local importer expected, all be received was tbc empty case! Now' comes information that someone is ringing up women in the city seeking to make appointments, and at the same time claiming to represent well-known drapery houses. They have unlimited silk stockings to dispose of, the women arc told, and these can be purchased without coupons. Naturally none of the retail stores in the city is sending men round canvassing for the sale of silk stockings with supply so short. And to sell stockings without coupons would be illegal, a practice to which no reputable firm would resort.
Housewives, therefore, should look with grave suspicion upon any such phono calls or intimations that stockings may bo purchased without coupons.
