MONDAY, AUGUST 24. (Before Mr H.- W. Bundle, S.M.) Sergeant Conway, prosecuting, stated defendant had six children, aged three years to 18 years. A neighbour hung her washing on the line, and the next morning when she went to bring it in an undergarment was missing. Inquiries by Sprgeant Stark followed, and when questioned Mrs Miller admitted taking the article. She said it blew over the fence and that she was going to return it. --Sergeant -Stark, in answer to the court, said Miller was a thief, he was sorry to say. Her homo was filthy, and the family were of the same strain as defendant, possibly because of her influence. Defendant had been on probation previously, and it was difficult to know what to do with her. Placing the woman on probation, Mr Bundle said that the removal of garments from a lino was a despicable form of theft. MAINTENANCE. Peter Ronald Reddington was proceeded against for default of a maintenance order, arrears being £3l 3s. Defendant was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on paymen.t of £lO by August 31 and similar amounts by the end of September and October.
