SHARE MARKET. No sales were reported on ’Change this morning. There were a few inquiries for New Zealand Government stocks. Four per cent, bonds and stock (1946-49) yere wanted at £lO4 10s, 4 per cent, stock (1949-52) at £lO5 ss, 4 per cent, bonds and stock (1952-55) at £lO6 ss, and war loan (1953) at £9l ss. Two sellers appeared offering 3i per cent, stock (1957-60) at £lO2 and the 3 per cent. Liberty Loan at par. In banking New South Wales were wanted at £2B ss, New Zealand Long D at 30s, National of New Zealand at 465, National of Australasia at £lO 17s 6d, and Union, at £6 17s 6d. The only sellers were in New Zealand at 39s 9d and National of Australasia at £5 17s. In shipping buyers’ offers were received for P. and O. stock at 31s and U.S.S. Co. (pref.) at 275. In meat preserving New Zealand Refrigerating (cont.) were quoted at 9s sd, with a seller 3d away. There was the usual keen demand for local woollen mills at recent rates. In the miscellaneous section A.C.I. were sought at 465, Booth, Macdonald (pref.) at 6s, Broken Hill Proprietary at 36s 3d, Charles Begg at 20s, D.I.C. (pref.) at 24s 6d, Dominion Fertiliser at 17s 6d. G. J. Coles at 48s 6d, New Zealand Drug Company at 73s 6d, and Wilsons Cement at 17s 3d. National Electric were quoted at 23s (buyer), 24s 3d (seller). In breweries there were inquiries for New Zealand at 325, Dominion at 265, and Dunedin at 18s. Australian mining shares were in keen demand at recent rates. There was a market in Mount Morgan, a buyer offering 7s 6d with a seller 6d away. Sellers predominated in the New. Zealand mining section. Consolidated Gold were on offer at Bs, Gillespie’s at 4d, Grey River at 13s 6d, Okarito at 4d, and Waitahu at 7d. G. J. COLES. G. J. Coles and Co. Ltd. (Melbourne) earned a profit of £172,630' tor the year ended June 30, compared with £258,349 for the previous year. Preference dividend of 8 per cent, takes £12,000, and ordinary dividend, reduced from per cent, to 12£ per cent., absorbs £161,440. BERLEI. Net profit for Berlei Limited (Sydney) is £27,371 for the year ended June 30, compared with £28,052 for 1940-41. Steady ordinary dividend of 10 per cent, requires £13,756, and preference dividend of 8 per cent, amounts to £4,000. MINING. Slab Hut Creek Dredge.—The return for the week ended 1 August 20 was 520 z from 15,300 yards in 125 hours. Snowy River Dredge.—Last week’s return was lOOioz for 122 hours from 24,000 yards. Gillespie’s Beach. —The dredgemastcr reports a wash-up of 48oz 4dwt for 140 hours from 15.110 yards. Okarito.—The secretaries of the Okarito
Five-mile Beach Gold Dredging Company Ltd. report a wash-up of 19oz 4dwt of gold as a result of 63 hours’ dredging. MEAT PRODUCTION. The lamb killings for the present seasonat the Dominion’s freezing works till August 1 totalled 11,061,953 carcasses, the wether mutton killings 757,039 carcasses, and ewe mutton killings 1,961,528 carcasses.
