NAZI LEADER'S GESTURE (Roc. 12.33 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 23. General von Stuelpnagel has placed 10,000,000 francs at the disposal of the local prefect “in recognition of the discipline and remarkable calm of the population of Dieppe at the momentof the attempted British landing.” The Vichy news agency says the money will be used for reimbursement for damage and relief of the civilian victims of the British bombardments. Retain and Laval are reported to have thanked Stuelpnagel.
