JAP. SHIPS SUNK

FAR EASTERN OPERATIONS

WASHINGTON, August 22. A navy communique reports that as the result of operations in Far Eastern waters two large cargo ships were sunk, one destroyer was damaged and possibly sunk, one largo transport was sunk, and one medium-sized cargo ship was damaged. These actions arc not related to the operations in the Solomons. A submarine reported sinking a large Japanese merchantman in the Aleutian area. These actions have not been announced in any previous communique.
